University of Bayreuth
Interdisciplinary Microplastic Sciences (InterMicro) is a PhD programme at the University of Bayreuth that emerged from the Collaborative Research Centre 1357, Microplastics. It brings together chemistry, physics, engineering, geosciences, mathematics and biology to understand plastics from macromolecules to their impacts in the environment. By combining laboratory, modelling and field research with training in communication and sustainability, InterMicro prepares early-career researchers to develop science-based solutions for microplastic pollution and global environmental change.

I am a PhD researcher and socio-ecopreneur with over eight years of experience in plastic recycling and sustainable innovation. My doctoral work focuses on the atmospheric transport of microplastics and tire-wear particles in the environment. During my national youth service, I initiated a social impact program in one of the most polluted communities in my host state. Through the distribution of waste pushcarts, the elimination of three major illegal dumpsites, and the empowerment of residents to exchange plastics for value. The project earned me 4 state awards, including an SDG commendation.
