From Dutch Wool and Seaweed

Carpet made with wool & coloured with seaweed

Winner for the Interior & Lifestyle Category

The Knitwit Stable and Zeefier have joined forces to create From Dutch Wool and Seaweed, a sustainable carpet made from local wool dyed with eco-friendly seaweed. Inspired by the Dutch coast, this collaboration emphasizes local resources and minimizes waste using seaweed and wool byproducts. Founded by Nienke Hoogvliet and Anne Boermans, Zeefier produces seaweed-based dyes, while The Knitwit Stable, founded by Reina Ovinge revives Dutch wool production. Together, they champion sustainable, industrial-scale production that respects nature, animals, and local communities.

Jury Statement: Made from locally sourced Dutch wool and eco-friendly seaweed dye, this carpet shows the commitment to sustainability by minimizing waste and ecological footprint through local production. Water pollution is avoided by using natural and non-toxic dyes, and waste is kept to a minimum thanks to its biodegradable and circular design. Furthermore, the use of natural and minimal processed materials requires less energy as compared to conventional textile. Simply – amazing product!
