Winnner in the Building Design Category
The building is planned from reused materials from the dilapidated daycare centre building and other dismantled buildings from Darmstadt and will be erected on the existing site to minimise interventions in nature and additional land sealing. Our design focuses on the basic principle of circular construction: aesthetics follow availability. This guiding principle is reflected in the construction and especially in the patchwork-like façade, which impressively expresses the basic principle of circular construction and maintains identification with the location.
Jury Statement: The project convinced the jury as a blueprint for circular construction. The concept is multifaceted and combines several aspects of sustainability in a single building – from multiple uses as a daycare center and youth center, to minimal land sealing with tree preservation, and the use of regional, recyclable building elements. The circularity concept is reflected in the architecture and leads to an identity-forming aesthetic.
