Biological Footprint is a biodegradable shoe made of Gotlandic seaweed and hemp, designed for postal workers. The biobased seaweed rubber sole is inspired by the lotus seed pod and spreads native seeds and micronutrients as the wearer walks. The project uses excess seaweed from beaches, which removes nutrients from the Baltic Sea to help reduce overfertilization. After use, the shoes can be composted or ground down as agricultural fertilizer.
