BSR Buddy is a smart waste system for Berlin, developed with BSR, the city's cleaning service. It uses a low-tech attachment to lock existing waste bins, which residents unlock contactlessly with the BSR app. This system helps solve the problem of wrongly sorted waste, especially valuable bio-waste, and blocked collection points. It is sustainable by optimizing collection routes, reducing unnecessary travel, and saving energy/emissions. It also improves working conditions for sanitation staff by relocating bins to more accessible areas.
