Kera-Plast

The plasticization of human hair waste

Kera-Plast is a stiff, biodegradable, and renewable material out of Human Hair. The keratin-based material is generated by merging traditional textile techniques with thermo-compression molding. Through this process, the hair fibers even glue together without any additional binders. The result is a stiff material, reminding on plastic due to the shiny, water-repellent surface and translucency combined with various patterns and 3D surface design possibilities. By introducing human hair as a common material base Kera-Plast proposes a mindset and systems towards a holistic circularity.
