TômTex

TômTex makes revolutionary bio-based textiles

We offers aesthetically versatile and naturally biodegradable textiles that can mimic fabrics like leather, pleather, suede, latex, vinyl, and so many more. TômTex is a revolutionary, bio-based, and high performance material that emphasizes two key food waste ingredients: seashells and mushrooms. There's no toxic tanning or dying process, no petro-chemicals or plastics, and no harm to the planet or people. We invest in circularity through our nature driven design and our attention to responsibly sourcing our ingredients from manufacturers that respect people and the planet.

Designer(s)
Uyen Tran and Ross McBee
Uyen Tran was born in Viet Nam. She pursued design and fashion and realized how much pollution and textile waste the fashion industry creates. Uyen utilized her years of experience to research how fabric could be sustainable. Ross McBee is a scientist whose work has straddled the worlds of synthetic biology and chemistry. At TômTex, Ross leads the research and development of our TômTex material with a main regeneratively-focused idea: allow the source materials to lead us. Ross received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas, Austin, and his PhD at Columbia University.
