Bagaceira Fiberboard

Umwandlung von Zuckerrohrabfällen in neue Materialien

Diese Faserplatte auf Bagasse-Basis ist Teil der Bagaceira-Materialbibliothek, einer Sammlung neuer Materialien, die aus dem wichtigsten Nebenprodukt der Zuckerrohrindustrie, der Bagasse, hergestellt werden. Das Material wird aus erneuerbaren und biologisch abbaubaren Materialien hergestellt: Bagassefasern, Pflanzenstärke und Kalziumkarbonat. Es ist stark und robust und kann in dreidimensionale Formen gegossen werden. Die Designerin Julia Steketee hat einige Prototypen für Lampenschirme entwickelt, indem sie dieses Material über dreidimensionale Formen gegossen hat. Natürliche pflanzliche oder mineralische Pigmente werden hinzugefügt, um verschiedene Erdtöne zu erzielen.

Julia Steketee
Julia earned her BFA in Furniture Design at Rhode Island School of Design where she developed her skills in woodworking, metalworking, leatherworking, and ceramic and textile techniques. After working for two furniture designers and as a fabrication assistant for a sculpture artist, Julia earned her MA in Design for Emergent Futures at the Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalunya and completed a postgraduate research program at ELISAVA and ISEC Lisboa. Her design and making practice centers around bio-based material development, natural building techniques, and the circular economy.
