Ecological mattress design
It's a topic to fall asleep to... That's exactly how it should be, because it's about mattresses. In Europe, 35 million of them are disposed of every year and only a few are recycled. In the case of mattresses, 90% of the ecological footprint is linked to the materials used in them. So the industry needs to become more circular! ECOMADE has developed three partial solutions for a paradigm shift: 1. closed-loop recycling of mattress textiles, 2. a new generation of comfortable, ecological and circular mattresses, 3. ten design principles for sustainable mattresses.

“There are professions more harmful than industrial design, but only a few.” (Victor Papanek in 1984). Motiviert, diese Aussage zu wiederlegen, arbeitet Joel Hügli aus der Schweiz seit 6 Jahren in Teilzeit als Produktdesigner und Forscher an der Hochschule Luzern in der Forschungsgruppe Produkt & Textil. Berufsbegleitend schloss er im Jahr 2022 sein Teilzeitstudium Master Design an der Hochschule Luzern ab. Für seine Masterarbeit "ECOMADE - Ecological Mattress Design" erhielt er den "Design Preis Schweiz" und die Auszeichnung "Master of Arts in Design".
