MYCO-ALGA

3D printed mycelium-algae interior tiling system

bioMATTERS, a New York City and London based biodesign studio, have developed living material and fabrication workflows to create non-repetitive interior tiling systems. The tiles offer a sustainable alternative to interior panels, as they are made from living organisms, upcycled organic waste, and are 100% biodegradable. The panels are designed with computational algorithms, 3D printed, grown with mycelium, and enhanced with algae bio-pigments to add color. The ambition includes evolving bio-aesthetics and advancing ecological practices, to promote a cultural shift to biomaterials.
