Waste me not

A modular fashion collection

The "Waste me not" fashion collection is a statement against the waste & disposal of well-preserved raw materials. Each piece is reversible and modular, which means there are many ways to wear it & at the same time less space is needed in wardrobes, suitcases & warehouses than would be the case with conventional garments for a comparable number of outfits. All collection pieces are knitted with overproduced yarn on a domestic knitting machine & are complemented by accessories made from laser-cut plexiglass remnants as well as shoes made from beech wood & old bicycle tyres.

Since the beginning of my fashion design studies I'm focussing on sustainability and have realized several zero-waste & upcycling projects. After teaching myself to handknit and crochet as a teenager, my passion for machine knitting was ignited during my bachelor studies. In my bachelor collection called "Waste me not", I combined my love for knitwear with sustainability and created a reversible, convertible, modular collection from overproduced yarns. In my current master's program, I am further deepening my focus on knitwear design and sustainability.

Fabienne Foerster
